The birthplace of many internationally renowned artists, this quarter of the city is steeped in rich history & the arts form a vital part of our past.
The Chester is situated on the leafy and lively Antrim Road, neighbouring some of the most treasured victorian architecture in Belfast. We believe that local stories of heritage, tradition and days gone by should be kept alive, cherished and enjoyed for years to come.
With roots planted deep in the home of great craic and good people, watered with fond memories and history, fed with warm welcomes. The Chester has home to be proud of, a home to share. Join us, rest a while, savour your time and enjoy .
The Cave Hill was affectionately nicknamed the “sleeping giant” by Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver’s Travels.
We like to think the giant keeps a watchful eye on The Chester from high above the Antrim Road. This natural monument, an iconic landmark that dominates the North Belfast skyline, has inspired and enthralled artists and naturalists for centuries.
From its five mysterious caves that offered shelter to highwaymen back in the day, to a neolithic settlement and a ceremonial fort, the Cave Hill offers spectacular panoramic views of the city.
In the 1800’s, North Belfast bore many wealthy victorian ladies & gentlemen whom we think would feel right at home enjoying a tipple at the Chester!
